AstraZeneca BeLux Strengthens Commitment to Inclusivity with Extended Birth Leave for Fathers and Co-Parents

At AstraZeneca BeLux, we are proud to announce an initiative launched in 2024 that underscores our dedication to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. Recognizing the importance of equitable parental support, we are now offering extended birth leave for fathers and co-parents. This initiative reflects our commitment to creating a supportive environment where all employees can succeed, both personally and professionally.

A New Benchmark for Birth Leave in Belgium

In Belgium, maternity leave is set at 15 weeks, providing essential time for mothers to bond with their newborns and recover from childbirth. However, research across various countries highlights a recurring challenge: for many mothers, an extended absence from the workforce can sometimes lead to a disproportionate sense of responsibility for caregiving, potentially affecting their careers. To address this imbalance and promote greater equity, AstraZeneca is introducing a significant enhancement to birth leave for fathers and co-parents.

Fathers and co-parents will now benefit from two additional months of leave, on top of the 20 legally mandated days. This extra leave allows them to step away from work and fully participate in this transformative life event. By offering this extended time, we aim to support families in achieving a more balanced approach to caregiving responsibilities.

Driving Positive Change in the Belgian Workplace

Belgium has made strides in creating family-friendly policies, but there is still work to be done to ensure that workplace cultures adapt to modern family dynamics. At AstraZeneca BeLux, we believe that businesses have a vital role to play in driving this progress. By implementing initiatives like extended birth leave, we not only enhance the employee experience but also contribute to a broader cultural shift towards equity and inclusion.

AstraZeneca’s Commitment to Employee Well-Being

As a leading company in the pharmaceutical industry, AstraZeneca is committed to building an equitable workplace where diversity and inclusion are embedded in our culture. We focus on creating positive employee experiences through initiatives that support work-life balance, foster a sense of belonging, and enable our people to achieve their full potential.
