The Board
The AstraZeneca Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Jean-Luc Balligand.
The majority of the members are academics representing the major universities in Belgium and offering their expertise on the most prevalent medical problems and medical areas in public health. Three members of the board are part of the AstraZeneca BeLux management committee.

Prof. Dr. Isabelle Meyts
Prof. Dr. Isabelle Meyts obtained her medical degree at the University of Leuven, Belgium in 1999. In 2007 she obtained her license in Pediatrics as well as her Ph.D.
Prof. Dr. Joke Denekens
Prof. Dr. Joke Denekens is MD, PhD, and general practitioner. She was also a full professor in the General Practice and head of the department of the General Practice at the University of Antwerp.
Prof. Lieven Annemans
Lieven Annemans is Senior Full Professor Economics of Health and Wellbeing at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ghent University, Belgium.
Prof. Dr. Michel Goldman
Professor Michel Goldman is the Founding President of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovation in healthcare at the Université libre de Bruxelles.

Agnès Noel, PhD
Agnès Noel, PhD is Full Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Liège. She has been Director of the GIGA-Cancer from 2011–2023. She is heading the Laboratory of Biology of Tumor and Development (LBTD) in the GIGA. She is a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium since 2009 and laureate of several national and international awards.
Angela Thompson
Angela joined AstraZeneca in 2022 as Vice President for AstraZeneca Canada, where she successfully led sales, marketing, pharmacy, and patient support teams, achieving strong business performance and impactful patient outcomes.
Dr. Anke Van den broeck
Anke Van den broeck is a Hepatobiliary Surgeon from the University Hospital of Leuven with a PhD in Pancreatic Cancer from the Catholic University of Leuven.
Tijs Neutens
Tijs Neutens holds a PhD in Sciences (2010, Ghent University). He has ten years of academic experience, of which he served 5 years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).
